Article written by Jeannette Carr-Smith - Regional Manager Clearwater Properties, Supervising Broker

Tucked in the extreme Northwest corner of Montana sit many treasures waiting to be explored. Here are my top 5 sites to visit (besides Glacier National Park, which is a given!) The towering Cabinet Mountains provide a stunning backdrop for pristine streams and calm lakes full of fish. With millions of acres of public lands and wilderness, there are trails, campgrounds, and water access areas everywhere you look. Welcome to our backyard!

• The Ross Creek Cedars – located just off Hwy 56, up against Bull Lake, sits this gem of towering old growth cedar trees. With trails meandering between these beautiful trees, this is a truly magical place. Enjoy hikes in the summer or cross country skiing in the winter.

• The Swinging Bridge – on the Kootenai River and the Kootenai Falls. Several scenes of “The Revenant” with Leonardo DiCaprio were filmed here. Pack a lunch and enjoy a quick hike with spectacular views in all directions. If you brave the swinging bridge, you are rewarded with even more spectacular views of the river.

• The Yaak Falls – take a drive up the Yaak River along the Yaak River Rd and enjoy rumbling falls. The scenic highway follows the river and has many great spot to stop and enjoy.

• The Noxon Reservoir – If you love to fish or enjoy any water sports, this 25 miles of boatable water hosts numerous BASS fishing tournaments each summer. With the dam at Thompson Falls at one end and the Noxon Rapid Dam at the other, this body of water is the perfect summer retreat. The towns of Trout Creek and Thompson Falls have great places to each and grab a beverage.

• Bull Lake – this tiny lake is perfect for boating, camping, and fishing. With stunning views in all directions and very few people, this is the perfect place to spend a summer day.

So, if you're looking for a getaway off the beaten path, head to Montana's Northwest corner and explore these hidden treasures. Whether you're an avid hiker, fisherman, or just looking for a scenic drive, you'll find something to love in this beautiful and wild part of the state. Come visit our backyard and discover all the wonders it has to offer.
